The world is in trouble, and corruption runs rampant. Who is there to help the little guy? Who has the technical knowledge to take on some of today's most repressive states. Who else, The Hacktivists.

As a young adult I am grateful for being able to wake up every morning and go to school and live a normal life, however, many youth within the world cannot. Today alone, 6500 people will be infected with HIV and out of the 2.5 million people infected yearly 40% of them are youth ages 15-24. As someone who is in between that age bracket I can’t fathom how devastating it would be to find out that I was HIV positive. Thankfully I am educated about HIV/Aids prevention and I can take the precautions necessary to keep myself safe, however many people in the world don’t have the basic knowledge of HIV prevention and that lack of knowledge sometimes ends up costing them their life.  read more »

Deciding to choose any place in North America to document a current social issue concerning youth it would have to be Philadelphia P.A because of all the crime. Documenting Philadelphia would be interesting because people would understand why kids really get in to inapropiate situations; gangs, drugs, robbery. Also, by documenting Philadelphia, kids who may watch documentation about crime in general may come to know the loss of a loved one and the loss of your life by participating in crime affiliated actions, so once you're in gangs, drugs, or other illegal situation it's almost impossible to get out.  read more »

If I could go anywhere in North America I would travel to Nunavut. I would use my knowledge in filming documentaries to creatively express the cultural differences between youth of the north and youth that live in urban communities. Last spring I built schools in Central America and enjoyed the project because I was able to bring back a story that people could understand and relate to. I would love to be able to use my talents once more to be able to connect youth that are miles apart. A lot of people my age do not know the challenges that youth in the north face and how completely different they are from our own issues.  read more »

       If I could go anywhere in North America to document an important social issue facing youth, I would stay here in Hamilton and help out my own comunity. A big social issue facing youth is povery. Poverty can affect anyone. In Hamilton, some children don't have enough food to survive. Families can't always afford to buy food, clothing or even shelter. Some students have to start working and get jobs at very early ages to help support their families. This can then lead to dropping out of school to work a full time job to try to earn more money. I believe that those children should not have to worry and should be able to enjoy their lives as children, an I'd would love to help them!!  read more »

WATER. It covers nearly three quarters of our earth's surface, is home to millions of different species of animals and, as Canadians, is arguably one of our most precious resources. With our rapidly diminishing supply of freshwater, water is becoming what gold once was, the most valuable substance on earth. What are we doing to this precious resource? Polluting it. All across Canada, but particularly in Nova Scotia, water pollution is an issue that, if left untreated, can be devastating to future generations. I would like to travel to Nova Scotia to see first-hand the water pollution and steps that can be and are being taken to reduce the pollution in our waters. Our generation must know about the effects of water pollution on our environment, wildlife and even our climate.  read more »
