Directors of Change documentary filmmaker Julie Paquette, 18, is the cover girl for the first issue of Quebec’s English magazine Authentik. The magazine, which has been successfully publishing in French for three years, is written and produced by young women for young women and provides an alternative to mainstream women’s magazines.

The first issue features Julie’s story about filming a documentary in India with the Directors of Change program. It also includes articles on a youth and community activist in Labrador with her eyes set on becoming a politician, the youth editor of a newspaper, an eco-fashion designer and a gay activist/roller derby referee, as well as an article on how to get out of an abusive relationship.

Copies of the magazine can be obtained in high schools, Community Learning Centres, youth centres, community organizations and participating Uniprix stores across Quebec, distributing 5,000 copies for free.
